Message to people in the world; Traditional Craftsmanship of Chubu Region

Date & Time: September 19, 2014 (Fri) 16:30-18:00
Place: C5 Lecture Room (C517), School of Science Building C
Speaker: Prof. Kumi Sato (Kinjo Gakuin University)
Language: English

The gist of the lecture:
Ms. Sato had been introducing Japan in cooperation with foreign journalists to foreigners who visited and lived in the Chubu Region as the chief editor and publisher of the English magazine "Avenues". What she particularly concentrated on was to introduce "Traditional Craftsmanship" of the Chubu Region.
"Dashi Karakuri" (hand-crafted clock work automatons pulled through the streets on specially crafted floats) play an active role in many festivals in the Chubu Region. Japan is a renowned technology-driven nation, and it is essential to introduce "The Heart of Traditional Craftsmanship". In an era of globalisation, cross-cultural communication grows increasingly important. Therefore we need to build communicative competence for our own culture.
