Fundamentals of Optical Cockpit Displays and its Applications
The importance of helicopters in disaster relief and their roles in search and rescue (SAR) and emergency transportation operations are widely recognized. Since helicopters play such vital roles, it is desired to increase their effectiveness and extend their operational limit by enhancing the pilot's situation awareness. Optical Cockpit Display such as HUD(Head Up Display) and HMD(Helmet Mounted Display) is one of potential display devices for pilots to improve their situation awareness, and HUDs have been in service recently by commercial airliners. In this seminar, principle of HUD and HMD is introduced and introduction of an experimental project for SAR Helicopters by JAXA(Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and Shimadzu will follow. Lastly, one of general studies about reliability required to such aerospace equipment, will be also added.
