The Spacecraft System Design Lectures and Practices were held.

The Spacecraft System Design Lectures and Practices were held for nine days between March 4 and 17, 2014. The event consisted of a general lecture session mainly on spacecraft systems and subsystems technologies, a technical practice session, and a special lecture session on properly selected themes for this event.

The objective of the lectures and practices is to cultivate the fundamental capability, expertise and broad perspective regarding spacecraft technologies.

The general and special lectures were delivered mainly by the invited lecturers who are all specialists of each field of space activities.

The general lectures covered the almost whole technology of spacecraft systems and subsystems from fundamentals to applications, including relevant matters such as launch site and on-orbit operation.

As for the special lecture session, three lectures were held. Two of them were concerning ultra-small satellites, and were given on the theme of the present global development activity status and trend, and prospects of utilization based on the detailed investigation of the field. The other special lecture was presented about the development and operation project of the HTV (H-II Transfer Vehicle), a commodity supplier for the ISS (International Space Station), emphasizing how they led the project to success while harmonizing many different opinions among ISS international collaborators.

In the technical practice session, two kinds of activities were performed: the practical operational learning of the thermal and structural analysis tool (Thermal Desktop and Solid Works), and experimental practices in the laboratory. In the latter, studies of thermal control material using a space chamber and structural experiments using a vibration test facility were conducted.

In these series of lectures and practices, the students were highly interested in the every theme, and this event successfully achieved its objective. In addition, the event was able to play the role of a bridge connecting to the next step, ChubuSat Instrument Development Project, attaining high density educational effect.
